Interior Design Trends for 2016

2016 will see a whole host of new interior design styles being introduced with fashion ideas from the catwalks being translated into the world of interior design. This will be a year of pushing the boundaries and looking at design in a completely different way – it’s the year of loving what you love and not apologising for it!

What better way to begin spring (after de-cluttering of course!) than giving your house a whole new lease of life, creating a home where you want to spend your time and welcome others in.

The first big trend of the year is a Brazilian jungle theme, with exotic flora and fauna, animal prints and botanical colours mixed with natural bamboos, light woods and rattan furniture. Accessorise your space with bright colours – vibrant greens, oranges, purples, yellows and pinks – and bold floral prints in cushions, rugs and wall art. You can also incorporate the forest feel in your room with fabrics and wallpapers inspired by horticulture, alongside plants – real or artificial depending on your green thumb (or lack of it!) and exotic woods.

If bright and bold isn’t your thing, why not try this year’s revival on the neutrals theme? Wave goodbye to cream and grey being your neutral base colours and say hello to dusky pinks and camel tones for a warm and inviting space. Incorporating a soft pastel shade paint palette brings a touch of old world glamour to any room especially when paired with metallic details using brass, warm gold’s and copper, plus light woods and natural fabrics.

2016 is also seeing a revamp on the coastal theme with a more relaxed, informal feel by avoiding the use of any obvious nautical patterns and instead using patterns and colours to create that beachy feel no matter where you live. Mix up your nautical style by combining stripes with gingham, large checked patterns and florals in a contemporary grey palette with splashes of red and blue. Reintroduce some rattan or sea grass for that authentic coastal vibe.

Another bright trend for this year is vibrant patterns and clashing colours to create a retro seventies feel – think over the top accessories and a theatrical flair! Try incorporating a block colour wall with accessories in contrasting patterns and colours for an eclectic but modern space.
